Partnering with you to bridge the gap between families and schools. Helping families’ voices to be heard and understood.
Partnering with Families and
Learning Communities
According to current research, parent engagement substantially increases students’ academic performance. And yet, schools struggle to actively involve parents in a sustainable and impactful way. This is due, in part, to parents’ roles being viewed as secondary to the expertise of classroom teachers and school leaders, If learning communities do not reimagine the role of parents and their direct impact on student success, children will continue to lack motivation, struggle with self-management and demonstrate poor academic success.
We can help by bridging the gap between families and learning communities through advocacy, professional learning, and collaboration in order to empower families' voices to be heard and understood.
Partnering with Families
We can support your family to better understand your child’s academic needs, to develop strategies to connect what they are learning at school to your home environment, or to serve as a liaison between you and the school community.
Partnering with Learning Communities
We can support your learning community to refine or develop strategies to better engage families as learning partners. Through research-based and culturally relevant approaches, we can enhance your institutions current approach to family engagement.

“Krystle provided educational support for my children during a time when the school system failed them. Her engaging presence, value of in real-world learning, and parent collaboration for continuity evoked a level of freedom and love for learning from my children that has been unmatched 13 years later.”
— Keisha Stevens, parent
“Krystle has expanded my perception of what it means to support and advocate on behalf my children. Every conversation and interaction with her is meaningful and full of tangible ways that I can support my children's learning and development. She's thoughtful, perceptive and honest. She takes time to really "listen", which means she often picks up on things that are not said. My growing confidence as my children's first teacher is in no small part due to Krystle's guidance and advice over the years. She is an amazing resource and I am grateful to have access to her expertise.”
— Trish Davis, parent
“I'm working on a parent/family engagement initiative with the Black & Brown Coalition, MCCPTA and the Restorative Justice Practices Subcommittee. Developing Essential's work centers the parent/family and child's voices! It not only empowers parents/families (who typically don't feel welcome, especially in PTA's which can operate in a very inequitable way) and confirms for them that they are their children's first teachers, their work also lifts up ways that parents/families can encourage their own children's voices. Developing Essential's work is, well, Essential! I'm grateful that I can call on its founder, Krystle and will be listing DE as a trusted provider as the above-mentioned groups are working on power mapping in the County.”
— Wylea Chase, parent and advocate
“Krystle is an educator with a passion for seeing children receive a wholistic educational experience that not only involves classroom instruction, but interactive experiences that children will remember. I’ve had the honor to witness Krystle host interactive educational events where she has invited my children to participate, they have walked away with a greater knowledge of subject matter because of her passion and involvement.”
— Brian & Akia Ajayi, parents
“I love how detail oriented she is and the creativity that she pulls out of the group. As a parent and an educator I can truly appreciate the time she puts in to prepare for the group. It's more than just reading it's making sure they understand what's happening and can use their words/voice to communicate that.”
— Alecia Walker, parent
